We are thrilled to announce the Robert Thompson, Award-winning Design Director at TVA Architects, is confirmed as a speaker at this year’s Portland Creative Conference on Saturday September 17th.
Robert’s work is featured around the world (including headquarters for Proctor & Gamble and Sony Ericsson) and his most well-known Portland-area buildings include the Nike campus (he has designed over 30 buildings for Nike), the Fox Tower, the John Ross condos and the Umqua Bank Store in the Pearl. One of his most recent projects is the Matthew Knight Arena on the U of O campus.
Here is a testimonial from a colleague:
“Bob is among a very small group of architects I’ve worked with that I’d put in the genius category,” says Bart Eberwein of Hoffman Construction. Hoffman built Knight Arena, the Fox (in which the contractor is headquartered), and numerous other TVA designs. “He sees the building in his mind. Things come to him like a poem would to William Blake.”
Here is a quote from Thompson about creativity in architecture:
“Architecture is, above anything, the art of creatively solving problems. There’s nothing more exciting than to engage with somebody, not in our profession, who is truly passionate or that has a different idea about how a particular problem might be solved. In the 1960s architecture was more of an engineering art. It has evolved and will continue to evolve into much more of a fine art.”
